Julia Samardzich

Julia Samardzich (nee Momcilovich) Valparaiso, IN Julia Samardzich (nee Momcilovich, age 92, of Valparaiso, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2006. Julia was born December 28, 1913 in Shirkieville, IN to the late Dane and Ruza Momcilovich. She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Mirko Samardzich. Upon moving to Gary in 1933, she was employed at the Sheet & Tin Division of U.S. Steel in the Met Lab with 40 years of dedicated service. In 1976, she retired and enjoyed the next 30 years. As a founding and active member of St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral, she was very faithful and supported the church in many ways. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother (Baba), who was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Vjecnaja Pamjat! May her memory be eternal! Julia is survived by her son, Wayne (Dobrila) Samardzich of Valparaiso; two grandsons: Alexander and Andrija; sisters: Anne Bonner and Millicent Popovich; sister-in-law, Nellie Momcilovich; also many nieces, nephews, Kumovi and family friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2006 at 1 PM Directly at St. Elijah Serbian Orthodox Cathedral with V. Rev. Lazar Kostur officiating. Interment, Calumet Park Cemetery. Arrangements were completed by Savich and Semplinski Funeral Directors. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8 PM at Burns Funeral Home, corner of 101st and Broadway, Merrillville/Crown Point. A Pomen Service will be offered at 7:30 PM, Thursday. Memorials may be donated to Mothers Against Hunger, sponsored by the Circle of Serbian Sisters.
