Leroy Cataldi Obituary
Leroy Cataldi
Aug 28, 1935 - Oct 22, 2025
Leroy "Lee" Fiorello Cataldi, age 90, went to rest after a life well-lived on Wednesday, October 22, 2025. He passed away peacefully in his beloved Marco Island home, where the serene, breathtaking views of Barfield Bay provided him with his deepest solace and comfort. Lee was a man defined by his faith, his profound integrity, and his quiet strength of character. A devoted father, grandfather, and friend, his presence will be incomparably missed by all who knew and loved him. The beautiful legacy of his life will be a treasure cherished in our hearts forever.
Born in East Chicago, Indiana, on August 28, 1935, Lee was the son of Vincent and Catherine Cataldi (née Marchi). He attended All Saints Elementary School and Bishop Noll High School, both in Hammond, Indiana. Lee pursued his passion for medicine at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and his Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. He was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
Leveraging his entrepreneurial spirit, Lee transitioned from pharmacist to successful business owner, operating several drug stores across Northwest Indiana (including Dyer, Whiting, Griffith, and Merrillville) and in Sauk Village, Illinois, and developing medical/professional office buildings in Dyer.
Lee was a longtime resident of Dyer, Indiana, before relocating to Florida in 2004.
His deep commitment to service was evident in his many civic roles and community involvement over the decades. He was a dedicated member of his communities, notably serving 30 years on the Board of Directors of Peoples Bank in Indiana, retiring in 2008. He lent his leadership skills to the Dyer Lions Club, serving as its president for two years, and was a respected public servant, as a member of the first Dyer Police Commission formed in 1971. He also contributed to regional growth on the Lake County Economic Development Commission for five years. A lifelong sports enthusiast and dedicated alumnus, he was a member of the John Purdue Club. Following his move to Florida, he remained active, joining the Italian American Society of Marco Island and the Knights of Columbus San Marco Council #6344 (Marco Island), where he served as a Fourth Degree Sir Knight.
Lee enjoyed tennis, Canada fishing trips with his friends, and was passionate about golf. However, in Marco Island, he found a fondness for bocce-ball and thoroughly enjoyed the game, especially for the camaraderie it offered with his Italian American Society friends. He loved music and enjoyed singing and attending musicals. Lee discovered the joy of the piano later in life, diligently practicing and bringing music into his home every day.
A vibrant presence, Lee looked forward to social outings, especially the Knights of Columbus men's luncheons and, of course, the happy hours with his closest Marco Island friends! The countless stories he shared and the generous spirit with which he lived will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Vincent and Catherine Cataldi (nee Marchi), and his wives, Grace Patricia (nee Grant) and Kathleen Anne (nee Sanders), and his granddaughter, Elise Marie Armstrong.
He is survived by his daughters, Catherine Ann (Brian) Dudley, Renee Cataldi Armstrong, Juliann Lee Cataldi, Liesl Marie (Mike) Cataldi-Hillman, and Carla (Anthony) Cataldi Iannone; five grandchildren, Leighann Elizabeth Dudley, Dr. Rebecca Nicole Dudley, Robert James Armstrong III (Adam McCormick), Michael Vincent Hillman, and Jenna Grace Hillman; and three stepchildren, Shelly (Marc) Voumard, Terri (Greg) White, and Danny (Olivia) Sanders, and their extended families. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. William "Bill" Guglielmo (Barbara) Cataldi; a nephew, Dr. Christopher Vincent Cataldi; and nieces, Dr. Bethany Ann Cataldi and Dr. Nicole Marie (Tim Hanifin) Cataldi.
