Luke DeBold Obituary
Luke T. DeBold, age 29 of Dyer, passed away Thursday, April 29, 2010 after a courageous two year battle with cancer. He is survived by his parents: Thomas and Kay DeBold of Dyer; sister, Dawn DeBold of Dyer; grandfather, Lawrence DeBold of East Chicago; and aunt, Jeanne (Robert) Mis of Whiting. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 4, 2010 DIRECTLY at St. Joseph Church, Dyer, at 10:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial. Rev. Terry Steffens officiating. Burial will follow at St. John/St. Joseph Cemetery, Hammond. Friends may call at the Burns-Kish Funeral Home, 8415 Calumet Ave., Munster, In for visitation on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Luke was a lifelong resident of Dyer. He was a purchasing agent for Praire Concrete Co. He was Valedictorian of Andrean High School Class of 1998 and member of Baseball Hall of Fame of Andrean High School. Luke was a 2002 graduate of the University of Miami Florida with a degree in Business Management. He was a candidate for induction to the University of Miami Baseball Hall of Fame. Luke was a member of Championship Team in Baseball College World Series in 1999 and 2001. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.

It's not everyday that you get to meet such a wonderful human being as Luke DeBold. I was UM Baseball Spanish broadcaster from 1998 to 2003 and in all my years in baseball he's one for the ages. I nicknamed him "El Certero" loosely translated it means "The Strike Master", in reference to his 64 strikeouts versus 8 bases on ball. Those are HALL OF FAME numbers. To the DeBold family my deepest condolences and thanks for having raised a great son. May GOD bless the DeBold family. Luke THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES.

I remember Luke as the nicest little kid, and a really polite and thoughtful teenager. Luke & Dawn were always the sweetest little kids to babysit for. Luke was one of the finest young men I have had the priviledge to know. It was a great experience to have my son Bob play on the field with Luke at Andrean. He taught so much both on the field and the importance of being the best you can be off the field, he truly was an inspiration to so many. May he find the peace he so deserves now and you find the joy you have earned at raising such a special young man. You are in my prayers.

My deepest condolences to all of you. Luke was such a caring and sweet guy. I only knew him our Senior year at AHS but, he always had a smile and a welcoming word for me. Luke was a great son, brother and the best friend you could ever ask for! My deepest condolences to Tom, Kay and Dawn as I can only imagine what you're going through. I will always remember living at your place throughout my grade school years and will cheerish all the memories Luke and I had. My thoughts are with you. Luke was a very special and talented person with so much successes in his young life. I am so glad I got to know him and his family. We shared some great times at Miami. I can still remember first meeting him and his parents in my living room in Dyer and being so excited to have another student athlete from my home town. I was so impressed by him and his willingness to succeed. I also remember first watching him play ball at Miami, and being so impressed. Luke will definitly be missed by many, but he surely left his mark. I am so honored to have gotten to know Luke. May he rest in peace.

Dear Debold family,
Gretly saddened to learn of Luke's passing. I cannot think of a finer young man whom I've had the chance to teach and coach. I remember him being a big Cal Ripken Jr. fan, and how Luke beamed when Cal surpassed Lou Gehrig's record. Thank you for having provided me with the opportumity to work with your children.

Luke was one of the finest young men I ever had the pleasure of meeting. While he was injured one year, and rehabilitating, he often sat with me and my family at Mark Light Stadium. A true gentleman, great sense of humor and intense competitor. Much tougher than his sweet personality might imply. I saw him when he was last in Miami and it was as though he had never been gone. Although we were far apart age wise and in distance, I will miss him terribly. Godspeed
