MARY LIPKA CEDAR LAKE, IN Mary Lipka (nee Kolodziej), 98, of Cedar Lake and formerly of East Chicago passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 21, 2016. She is survived by daughters Linda (Leon) Ruiz and Fran (Scott Anderson) Hobson; grandchildren Tom (Jackie) Ruiz, Heather Hobson, Jason Ruiz (Juan Albarracin); great granddaughters Marianna and Cassie Ruiz; special sister, Florence Liss; sister- in-law, Susan Kolodziej; honorary grandchildren: James and Mary K. Anderson; and many nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Anthony Lipka, in 1984, as well as five brothers and three sisters. Friends may greet the family on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Burdan Funeral Home, 12901 Wicker Ave. (corner of US41 and 129th Ave.) Cedar Lake, IN 46303. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Holy Name Catholic Church, 11000 W. 133rd Ave, Cedar Lake. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL. Born on January 1, 1918, Mary was known for her delicious baking, her kind generosity, her great sense of humor, and her love of bingo, card games, and dice. She was a member of VFW post 717.
