Mary L. Powers

Mary L. Powers, age 78, of Lansing, IL, formerly of Calumet City and Chicago, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, March 14, 2026. She is survived by her sons: Mike (Christa), Lee (Jen), and David (Amanda); grandchildren: Sebrienna, Samantha, and Rylan; and multiple nieces and nephews as well as their families. She is preceded in death by her former husband and best friend, LeRoy D. Powers Jr,; sisters: Sally Smith, Joanne Kasmierski, Florence Heckenest, and Barbara Zarzecki; her parents: Edward and Estelle Mietlicki (nee Kopaczewski); and her faithful companion of many years, Bella.

Mary was a proud graduate of Lindbloom High School in Chicago, and has spent the past several decades enjoying her well-deserved retirement years. She worked with multiple outstanding individuals at Long John Silvers, Ryerson Steel Company, Napleton Honda, and elsewhere.

Mary loved all of her family and friends to the moon and she made sure that you knew it. She loved and would rarely miss an episode of Jeopardy! She also adored the birds, cats, and other animals that visited her around her yards. Keep your eyes open for the cardinals – it might be her visiting!
