My interaction with Matt only goes back about a year, and was in a professional capacity with Truth Data. I can honestly say that our professional interaction grew into a friendship. Matt's infectious optimism, great sense of humor, and consistent encouragement lifted my spirits on an almost daily basis. He was a true professional and just a good man. His deep love for his family was evident, even through our frequent phone calls and text messages. I pray for God's peace that passes understanding to guard his loving wife and daughters.

I had the pleasure of serving with Matt while attached to HSL-47 many moons ago. His passion for all things Whirly Bird and Mech related was hard to surpass. I remember clearly the depth of knowledge he retained was on par with Wikipedia, and even better was his willingness to share it with everyone around him.

A loving Father, supremely successful Chief, and devoted Mentor... Matt was all of these things, and so much more. I share my condolences with the Family as they process his loss, but please know one thing above all: He enriched the lives of all he came in contact with and was revered by those that knew of him.

May God give you strength, peace and understanding in your time of need.

Lovingly
-Tod H. Beights

I had the honor to serve with Matt in the US Navy when we met at HSM-41 in San Diego. Outside of work we skated together and played pick-up hockey at ungodly hours at the Kroc Center, most of the times with his father John. I had the privilege to re-enlist Matt at center ice before one of our games with his family all in attendance, I don't know who won but as always, we skated, crashed, and laughed our way through the whole game! There are no words that can express my deepest feeling of loss and sympathy for Jackie and her girls, for John and his wife, for Fran, and for the entire Hilton family. Matt was one of a kind; loving, caring, dedicated, smart, a Navy Chief brother, and a good friend.....I already miss you bro, skate on! May you always rest in peace.

Matt was a good friend of mine as we were stationed together at VQ4 in the power plants shop in Oklahoma back in the mid 90s. Out of our little shop crew, Matt and I were the only helicopter guys or rotor heads so we had that in common and he would always let everyone know how much better he considered that, lol. He was def a great person and I personally can never remember him ever getting mad. He was a great man and my friend and will truly be missed. My condolences to his family.

Jackie, Madison, Kaitie, Lillie...having a hard time processing this, SO very sorry to hear this news. Indeed Matt was the epidemy of positive attitudes and humor, and as you said...for me, the thing that stuck out the most during the time we served together was his absolute and TOTAL loyalty. Rest in peace buddy, rest in peace...God's speed to the pearly gates.

It was truly my privilege to work with Matt at Truth Data. I met Matt several years ago and ended up working very closely with him. We had a great working relationship, and had the opportunity to travel together. Matt's focus on his family was apparent, and I know he will be missed by so many people. My heart goes out to Matt's family and friends.

Matthew (we called him Chief) was a teammate of mine on our beer league hockey team, too old to brawl. He and his Dad were part of the original team just getting started. We had a great time. He was a great teammate and friend. Praying for John his Dad, his wife and kids. So sorry for your loss.

Matt was a great professional and very friendly. We first talked about a year and a half ago. At the very first meeting, we felt like we have known each other for quite some time. After that, we became very good friends and use to discuss ideas for improving our products. He was very passionate about his work.

I worked in the Navy with Matt at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City 1995-1999. GREAT man!! Fondest memories of fishing with him, riding in his beloved black Mach 1....and my all time favorite...."Turkey Bowl" during one Thanksgiving. Matt was our quarterback in a super muddy shop football game! NOBODY could tackle him!! My sincere condolences to his wife, daughters and parents. If there is anything you all might need do not hesitate to reach out to his AND your extended Navy family. Prayers and love...

Matt was my hockey pal to begin with but I was soon part of his life outside the rink. I especially loved being with friends and family celebrating holidays together or playing rock and roll in our little garage band!
At hockey Matt and Will backed me up, took care of me, and taught me so very much on the ice!
We got to play at the LA Staple Center in October of 2010, and afterward watch the Kings beat the Devils in their evening game.
Another time he and Will played against a tough team, too tough for me, but I joined the families and egged them on!
Matthew and I shared the Navy, albeit, I was a generation ahead of him. He, the mechanic, me the medic!
He was so very special to me and I will miss him dearly, keeping him always in my prayers.
Thank you Matthew for being my friend, love,
Kat

Man the times we shared. The good bad and ugly of us Mechs in VQ-4. What an amazing man Matt was. Very passionate, kind hearted and a good man. I was fortunate to call Matt a friend. We were stationed in VQ-4, Tinker AFB Oklahoma together for a few years in the late 90s. We had quite the crew back then. Matt was such an integral part of our tight nit Power Plants work center. Seems as if every week we were getting together somewhere with all of the peeps in the shop and their families. Matt was a dedicated Sailor who always stood by his word and taught me a lot about sound maintenance practices. Matt, you will be missed by anyone who's life you touched. The world needs more people like Matt Hilton.Love and prayers to his family and friends.
