Onnie Manich Obituary
Onnie Manich, age 87, of Whiting passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2011. He is survived and will be dearly missed by his beautiful wife of 64 years, Rose (nee Butkovich); son, Glenn (Sally) Manich of Pinehurst, NC; grandchildren: Dia (Doug) Ferry of Schererville and Ross Manich of Milwaukee, WI; great grandchildren: Warner and Madison Ferry; brothers: Steve (Joan) Manich of Highland and Martin (Helen) Manich of Schererville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Stephen and Manda; and brothers: William, Rudolph and George Kovacich. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the Baran Funeral Home, 1235-119th St., Whiting with the Rev. Charles W. Niblick, officiating. Cremation to follow. Visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. Onnie and Rose owned the "Four Deuces" Tavern for 53 years serving the best hamburgers and chili in town. Onnie sponsored, played on and coached several championship softball, bowling and basketball teams throughout the years. He was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union, the Roosevelt Club, Slovak Club and Ski Clubs. Onnie proudly served in the United States Army during World War II. He was the recipient of many WWII medals and ribbons: Victory, Army of the Occupation, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign and Theater, Philippine Liberation and American Theater prior to being honorably discharged in 1947. He was a member of the American Legion, Whiting Post 80 who will conduct memorial services at the funeral home on Monday at 7:00 p.m. Onnie will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was well respected by all who knew him and his benevolence knew no bounds. He truly enjoyed his family, friends and customers. Dear Rose and family,
I am so sorry about Onnie's passing. Onnie was truly one of the nicest, kindest men that I had the pleasure of knowing. There are so many things I could say about his goodness, but I find myself at a loss for words. I simply feel fortunate to have known him. My deepest sympathies and prayers are with you.

Rose, Glen, Sally, Remissa, and Dia,
I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of Onnie. I remember all of the Good Times with my family, Uncle Elmer, and the Four Deuces Softball teams (and yes, Onnie was always at all of them with Dia being our Cheerleader in her younger years--sorry Dia), to the Cheeseburgers after the games at the tavern. The team parties in the basement of the Tavern, when Rosie had to clear out Onnie's messes on the pool table, and just the fact that they made all of us feel so very special. Those are the memories I will always hold so dear to my heart. Rose, you and Onnie have been part of our family since I was a Kid, and I so very much cherish those times. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of the family at this very difficult time. May God Hold ALL of you "In the Palm of HIS hand."

Rose, Ramisa, Dia and Family,

Dear Uncle Onnie,
We all know that you are having a great time in heaven with all your family and friends that have gone before you! You always said that you lived your life with "No Regrets" and that is so evident by the impact that your passing has had on all who knew and loved you.
