PATRICK GIBB Obituary

Patrick Michael Gibb LOWELL, IN - Patrick “Mike” Gibb, age 64, of Lowell, IN, passed away on February 27, 2018 at Lowell Healthcare in Lowell, IN. The son of the late Thomas and Olga Gibb, he was born March 17, 1953 in Paterson, NJ. He grew up in Bloomingdale, NJ where his love of music began at an early age, being strongly influenced by his older brother William (“BillyJo”), a vocalist and guitar player. Mike became an accomplished musician, teaching himself keyboards and guitar. Later, while performing in NYC he had the good fortune of meeting the late legendary Blues artist, Junior Wells who encouraged Mike’s move to Chicago to pursue his musical calling. This led to his backing some of the greatest bluesmen in Chicago and honing his craft as one of the best bluesmen and showmen around. He toured the United States and Europe, performing with many great artists before forming his own band “Mike Gibb and the Homewreckers”. He also attended Prairie State College in Chicago Heights, IL where he studied Electronics Engineering. He was posthumously inducted into the Chicago Blues Halls of Fame as Master Blues Musician on April 1, 2018. Mike was the last remaining member of his immediate family. In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased by his brothers Thomas, William “BillyJo” and George Gibb as well as his sister Jeani (Gibb) Maraino. He is survived by loving nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of long-time dear friends who will forever remember Mike and the legacy he left behind in his music. A Celebration of Mike’s Life will be held on Sunday, April 29, 2018 at GoodFellas Bar and Grill, 11200 West 129th Ave (US 41), Cedar Lake, IN 46303 from 4:30 – 9:30 PM which will include a short service, an induction into the Blues Hall of Fame, followed by a musical tribute from many of Mike’s fellow musician friends. There will be no cover charge but donations will be accepted in Mike’s name for the HART Fund – Blues Foundation (see www.blues.org for more info on the foundation).

Dearest Michael - I tried to contact you over the years but hadn't seen your parents since 1986 while back in Jersey and later was unable to locate Jeani and Butchie, Billy Jo, Tom or George. Heartbreaking that you are no longer with us....we were born within two days of each other in the same hospital in Paterson so I figure we go back way further than Waffle Davis Band or when we had our blues band in 1978-79! I am leaving a picture of us with Frank Beeson, Bobby Sharp and John playing at a club in Riverdale, NJ. Peace of Christ be with you, Gibby! XO

Amazing Grace, How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
T'was Grace that taught my heart to fear
And Grace, my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed
Through many dangers, toils and snares
We have already come.
T'was grace that brought us safe thus far
And grace will lead us home,
And grace will lead us home
Amazing grace, Howe Sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost but now am found
T'was blind but now I see
Was blind, but now I see.
