PHYLLIS WEST RICHMOND VA.
Phyllis West, age 90 of Richmond, VA. was called to her eternal rest on July 7, 2014. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 67 years, James. Phyllis is survived by their children, Linda (Jerry) Shapley, Mark (Polly) West, Susan (Don M.) Taylor, Ellen (Donald W.) Taylor, and Paul West; grandchildren, Eric Shapley, Craig (Chantel) Shapley, Julie (Christopher) Raffa, Jessica (Keith) Bratcher, Jon (Jessica) West, Lauren Taylor, Andrew Taylor (fiancée Claire Holmes), Davis Taylor, and Bryson Taylor; and ten great-grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by her sister, Barbara Absher; she was predeceased by her brother, Donald Brough. Phyllis was born in Hammond, IN and raised in Lansing, IL. She graduated from Thornton Fractional Township High School, Calumet City, IL in 1941. She worked as a comptometer operator at American Steel Foundries in Chicago until she and Jim married in 1945, at which time her more-than-full-time job became homemaker and mother. She and Jim resided in Hammond and Griffith, IN until 1970 when they relocated to Richmond where Jim worked for Philip Morris. Phyllis was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she participated in the Martha Circle, Bible study and other activities. She was immensely proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Phyllis was a voracious reader and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing cards. She was an outstanding cook and will be remembered for her delicious meals and gracious hospitality. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2315 N. Parham Rd., Richmond, VA 23229, on Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 10:00 am. A reception will follow. Private interment will be at Greenwood Memorial Gardens, Richmond, VA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Trinity Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choosing.
