Raymond "Ray" R. Bucur, PhD

Raymond "Ray" R. Bucur, PhD, age 83, of Crown Point, passed away peacefully Saturday morning, January 11, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

He was a clinical psychologist in Merrillville for over 50 years and dedicated his career to the field of mental health, and working with children and adults with developmental disabilities. Ray was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, class of 1959. He went on to earn degrees from Culver Stockton University, University of Hawaii, and Indiana University before earning a PhD. at the University of Texas.

He is survived by his wife- Carol (nee McDonald), children- Nancy (Greg) Smith, Jonathan (Melissa) Bucur, David (Sam) Bucur; grandchildren-Allie, Kade, Ellory, Addie, Belle, Quinn, and Emerson; many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents- Dr. Nicholas and Mary Bucur, brother and sister-in-law- Alan and Kitty Bucur.

Ray and his wife raised their three children in Crown Point. He loved sports and enjoyed coaching his children. Ray was a passionate Bears fan and was a season ticket holder for many years. He loved to grill out and tailgate with family and friends. He ran the Chicago marathon twice. Ray enjoyed well-planned road trips and relaxing at Indian Lake, Michigan and Sanibel, Florida. He was a wonderful partner, dad, grandfather, uncle and friend. His wit, wisdom, laughter and sense of humor will be greatly missed.

The visitation will take place on Friday, January 17, 2025, from 12 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3 p.m. at Burns Funeral Home and Crematory, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN.
