Richard Cicenas Obituary

Richard Anthony "Dick" Cicenas

Aug 4, 1943 - Sep 12, 2025

Richard Anthony "Dick" Cicenas, 82 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, September 12, 2025. He was born on August 4, 1943 in Gary, Indiana to Anthony and Charlotte (Yuhasz) Cicenas. Dick graduated from Merrillville High in 1961 and made his career as an instrument engineer, retiring from Bethlehem/ArcelorMittal after 42 years of service. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Gary Ski Club, and the Porter Co Ham Radio Club. Dick volunteered at the Dunes National Lakeshore and was a reenactor at many living history events throughout the region.

Dick had a zest for life that was evident in his many passions. He loved traveling, golfing, woodworking, yard sales, exotic plants, attending air shows, and exploring the world of computers. His family and friends will fondly remember his enthusiasm for Star Trek, his fascination with lighthouses, his adventurous spirit on cruises, and his love of Polish food, desserts, and card games with friends. His neighbors will particularly remember him for his love of Christmas. Each year, he dedicated countless hours to creating a spectacular Christmas light display, bringing joy and wonder to all who passed by. Above all, Dick cherished sharing his enjoyment with others.

On March 10, 1978, Richard married Beverly Gray who survives along with their sons, Justin (Crystal) Cicenas and Bradley (Christina) Cicenas; grandchildren, Devin, Damon, Abby, Hannah, Logan, and Emily; great granddaughter, Audrey Reese; twin-brother, Robert Cicenas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Melissa Sipich.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM and burial to follow at St. Paul Catholic Cemetery, Valparaiso. I attended St. Emerics´ School with Rich and his brother many years ago. Even then, he was a fun loving studious person with varied interests.
My deepest condolences to his family on Rich´s passing.
He made the world a more interesting place.
Rest In Peace, Rich.
