I just learned of Bob's passing and want to offer my sincere condolences. Bob and Mary Ellen and my brother Bill and I were neighbors since fourth grade through high school, growing up just two or three houses down the block. I am heartbroken to hear of his illness and passing and sure he will be sorely missed. We share a lot of childish fun and games and Catholic Study Club until we all went our separate ways after HS graduation. My sympathy to his wife, Jill, and his loving children.

Bryan, I am so sorry about your Dad. I know you were loved greatly by him and he was loved greatly by you. That is the most important thing in life.

I met Bob through my friendship with Jill. Steve and I were spending the night with Jill when Bob called to ask her out for their first date. We attended their "winter wonderland" wedding in (I believe) 2005 and visited them in 2007 in Washington DC when he was a visiting professor there. He was a classy, noble, smart gentleman who loved his single malt scotch, bridge, travel, books and learning things. And it was clear he adored Jill above all else. The feeling was mutual . We stayed with them again in Bluffton S.C in 2015 as the disease was beginning, but he loved the company and participated in everything and everywhere we went. If I remember correctly, one of his keys to living a fuller life was to just "pay attention". So simple and so profound. I think about it all the time - especially now. I'm wiser for it, Bob. Thank you.

For many years I had the privilege of working along side of Bob. As a Federal Probation Officer our responsibilities were quite different but we were able to professionally collaborate. I truly enjoyed Bob. He was a wonderful man. May he rest in peace. My thoughts are with Jill, Bryan and the rest of Bob's beloved family.
