I was a teacher in Hammond and benefitted from many programs by the Leadership Academy. I am certain that Ruth and her programs were a strong foundation for the teacher I grew to become.
She was friendly, open, and had a great sense of humor. I remember her fondly.

Ruth was a very kind and caring educator. I enjoyed being able to participate in the Early Prevention Of School Failure program (EPSF) that initiated in several of the kindergarten classrooms in Hammond. Ruth will always be remembered for her leadership qualities.

It was my pleasure to know Ruth in her service as an administrator in the School City of Hammond . She brought innovation to the District and she did a beautiful job of supporting all the departments. I was a Library Media Specialist and I know she had a close relationship with my very capable boss, Larry Thwing, and the two of them supported our work in meaningful ways. One of the most memorable for me was the educational book club Ruth created pulling in various teachers and media specialists from around the district. She would choose outstanding books that made us think, be challenged, and debate with one another. I admired her intelligence, her humor, the way she lived her faith, and her dedication to students. Ruth was a tremendous role model for younger staff, many of whom became excellent teachers. I thank God for the life of Ruth!!!

She was my P.E. Teacher at River Forest. I can't remember what years. Was in the late 70's or very early 80's. My memory isn't the greatest these days. I do remember, she had us climbing the three ropes that went up to the ceiling a lot. My condolences to Family and Friends.

I was fortunate to work with Ruth during my tenure at the School City of Hammond. Everything Ruth did was in an effort to improve the lives and educational opportunities for the students. I am deeply saddened upon learning of Ruth's passing. My condolences are with the family.

Ruth and her Leadership Academy team were the water that fed my teaching roots, and the branches and leaves that grew allowed me to spread elevated teaching practices throughout my entire career. I will forever keep her to my heart.

Ruth single-handedly changed the course of my career! Two big pieces changed the course of my career...Ruth chose me to be the second PUC Teacher in Residence, which lead to a strong relationship with the education department where I had the opportunity to continue teaching for several years. Secondly, after leaving my 12 years in Hammond and moving to Texas; I returned to the area with my daughters, 9 months later. I couldn't rent a place because I didn't have a job, and I didn't have a job because I left with 12 years experience and SCH was only hiring teachers with a few years. Then came a phone call from Ruth with her latest gift...Language Development Teachers and Team. That phone call changed the trajectory of my career!! These gifts were life changing for me, but NONE touched the impact on my career and life more than Ruth's friendship, support, and unwavering faith in my skills. That was 43 YEARS ago... such a beautiful soul, fun and forever friend, amazing leader/mentor with a heart the size of Montana!!! I will always remember and cherish your friendship. Love you, Ruth!!!
