Sheila Lyndell (Exline) Saikin, age 70, of Chesterton, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, December 19, 2024, in Chesterton, Indiana. She was born February 21, 1954, in Sullivan, Indiana, and raised on a small dairy farm by her parents, James and Mabel (Ransford) Exline. Sheila was raised as a God loving, home bound country girl. She married Joel Saikin on August 14, 1992, at Duneland Church of Christ in Chesterton.
In addition to her loving husband of 32 years, Joel Saikin, Sheila is survived by her children, Joey (Norma Manguba-Negron) Saikin, Christine (Todd Heinold) Bucy; eleven grandchildren, Rebekah, Tori, Maxwell, Kyle, Reece, Nessa, Gabby, Emily, Jomar, Josh, and Izzy; three great-grandchildren, Natalie, Tyler, Caroline; special friend, Havana Haschel, and her four children, Sam, Isa, Jack, and Oni; childhood friend, Alice (Gerald) Marcotte, and their daughter, Ann (Kalvin) Morrison, and their three children, Kristan, Kaitlyn, and Korine; special adopted granddaughter, Holly Boren; sister, Diana (Hank) Sisil; nieces and nephews, Darren (Nikki) Sisil, Spring (Scott) Perry, Brian Gilham, Terri Sue (Chris) Nolan; and many great-nieces and -nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Gilham
Sheila worked as a telephone operator for over 17 years. She loved baking, flowers, gardening, and hosting. Her favorite things to bake for people include apple pie, peach pie, and zucchini bread/cake. Within her love for baking, she would often make these items and shared them with her family and friends throughout the world. They must have loved them, because they always wanted more. Sheila loved everything little red truck. She also had a passion for following many local musical talents who considered her, "Momma Sheila."
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 12:00 pm at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton, IN 46304, with Kalvin Morrison officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 12:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Chesterton Cemetery. Pallbearers and special friends that Sheila and Joel have supported in music, who loved her and she loved them as well, are Derek Caruso, Leroy Flores, Kenny Kinsey, Clint Slatcoff, Corey Dennison, and a very special friend who wanted to donate part of his body to keep Joel's body alive, George Tharp.
