Stephen Baba Obituary

Stephen Thomas Baba VALPARAISO, IN - Gifted musician and professional candy eater, Stephen Thomas Baba died August 18, 2017 at the age of 72. Steve was a star gazer, Geode hunter and beach lover. There wasn't an animal he wouldn't pet, feed, or try and save. Steve was an architect of mass destruction, and a master builder of mess, especially around the house or in his garage, where his brilliant mind lead to many creative endeavors, some awesome, some requiring the fire department. He was a proud pyromaniac when given the opportunity, especially when trying to impress his grandchildren. Steve was also incredibly proud to wear his speedo bathing suit to the beach, impressing the locals with his European flare, while horrifying the rest of us. Steve also had the incredible ability to eat pounds of sugar, salt and butter, which in his later years lead to healthier eating choices like organic chocolate cake, snuck to him by Melissa Culbertson. Steve was a graduated Ball State University with a degree in earth science and geology. He worked as a driver's education teacher, insurance agent and most recently, Steve worked at Bridges of Indiana as a Director for many years, helping people with disabilities. Steve's dedication and love for the people he worked with enabled him to share his genuine tender heart. The man, the myth, the legend, known as Hadji Baba too many, left behind his devoted wife, Judith Appel; daughter, Amie Dawson (Kirk); his adoring and loving grandchildren: Sophia, Spencer, and Weston; niece, Nikki Lobeck (Doug); nephews, Jon and Jason Baba (Michelle); and great nieces, Amanda Albert Lobeck (Ben) and Ali Lobeck; as well as a great- great niece and nephews. "Stevie" also leaves his best friend "Tommy" Jerome (Rita) of 65 years, with whom they shared a special bond of love and devotion. They will both go to the grave with stories no one ever needs to hear! Steve had too many friends and family too list, but non-to be forgotten. The family would also like to acknowledge the love and support from the Century 21 Affiliated family. Steve is now reunited with his mother Maria, father Nick and brother Jack (Carol), which may lead to the heavens opening and dropping meteorites on our heads! Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, August 25, 2017 from 12:00-2:00 PM at MOELLER FUNERAL HOME, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Front Porch Music Scholarship Fund in honor of Steve.

I knew & played in the Chosen Few with Hadjii for 3 months when I was in school in Indiana. You were my best friend. You were everyone's best friend.

I was so saddened to learn of Steve's passing. We were classmates at Franklin Elementary and WHS, class of '63, and lived near each other. We lived on Guthrie, and his family lived on Grace St. The writer of his obit. did an awesome job of describing Steve's interests, talents, personality, and spirit. I learned a lot that I didn't know about him. As kids, I remember Steve being rather quiet and reserved, but warm and friendly with a confident yet gentle spirit. He will certainly be missed. My condolences to Steve's entire family. You've been in my thoughts since I received the news, and I will continue to pray for you as the Holy Spirit leads. Sincerely and with warm regards, Daphne Banks Adams.

My heart is heavy at the loss of my WHS classmate Steve Baba. He was quiet and observant back then, yet he stood out in an impressive way. Steve was kind and his hair was always in place. That "Fonzie " smooth look.
I last saw Steve at the Class of 1963 ten year Reunion. He was as nice and cool as ever. We shared an insightful conversation as to the way we all had been back in the day. His observations were on point letting me know that in his own laid back way, he was present. Steve will never be forgotten.
My condolences to His Wife, Judy, and Family for this tremendous loss. Rest In Peace Steve.

I've been a funeral director for 23 years. I don't know Steve but wish I did. This obit is the most impressive obit I've ever seen. God bless your family and whoever wrote this ...you've touched hearts from people that did not know him in life. What a man he was. I'm sure he's still that man in heaven. But in my lifetime career never been so impressed with a man I never met. Wish I did. Rest In Peace.

The loss of a loved one is never easy, but this man seems to have made his mark. I don't read the obituary's but as I was turning the page I saw his picture and though what a great picture, so I proceeded to read the best well written obituary I have ever read. Which leads me to think he had to be a hell of guy. I showed it to a few friends and we all thought we need to live a life that leaves them talking about us! Cheers to Stephen for a life lived well, he even touched a few life's after he passed RIP

I worked with Steve at Arc Bridges. He was a great individual that would always help out when needed. He always went that extra step for the clients. May he rest in peace.

Played in a band with Steve back in the early 90's. Was the best time I ever had playing in any band! Steve kept me laughing all the time! Have been trying to get in touch with other musicians that we mutually knew. I hope they have all been contacted about this, so we can all get together and celebrate the life of my Romanian buddy I thought would live forever! He was indestructible! RIP my brother until I see you again !

This is by far the best thing I've ever read!! Steve was such a great guy!! I met Steve through the Arc and we were birthday Buddies!!! Working in a stressful environment I could always turn to Steve to make me laugh or even bribe him with a cupcake or 2 to con him into helping me move my desk! He will be missed by so many!
