Stephen John Chicki Aurora, IL Stephen Chicki, 74, of Aurora, passed away on Tuesday, June 14th 2005 at Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora. He was born on January 20, 1930 in East Chicago, IN, the son of Alec and Anna Chicki. He retired as Director of Purchasing at Steiner Corporation and had a long career in sales with Central Steel and Wire Company. He loved to golf, and after retirement he worked at Bliss Creek Golf Course. In 1970 he scored a hole-in-one at Midwest Country Club. Steve was an avid bridge player. He looked forward to his weekly game with good friends and "no trump" was his game. Steve graduated from Washington High School in East Chicago, IN in 1949. He graduated from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, IN in 1953 with a BS in Political Science. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and was a starting forward on the basketball team. He served in the Army at Dreaux Air Force Base outside of Paris and represented his base on the basketball team, even beating the Belgium Olympic Team by 30 points. He was a member of Holy Angels Catholic Church, American Legion Post 84 and Amvets Post 103 in Aurora. His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Marie Chicki of Aurora, three daughters, Donna (Gary) Garbe of Schaumburg, IL, Nina (Doug) Richardson of Pleasanton, CA, and Jill (Mark) Bruce of Wilmette, IL; seven grandchildren: Nick, Brittany, David Garbe, Steve Godwin, Sara Richardson, and Maddie and Elena Bruce; one great-grandchild, Riley Godwin-McGinnis; a brother, Louis Chicki of Munster, IN; a sister, Mary Costa of Granby, CT. Steve had a fabulous sense of humor, a zest for life and many close friendships. He loved a great story and had an extensive repertoire. He had a smile that lit up the party. He will be greatly missed and always remembered. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Alex Chicki and three sisters: Rose, Margaret and Anne. Services will be held at Healy Chapel, 332 W. Downer Pl., Aurora, IL at 2:30 pm on Friday, June 17th. Friends may visit the family beginning at 1 pm at Healy Chapel. Interment will be private.
