STEVE FUNKHOUSER HIGHLAND, IN
Steve Funkhouser, 61, of Highland, IN. passed away on Friday April 4, 2008, after losing his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving family. He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Mary Kay (Capaccio) and the apple of his eye - his daughter, Lynsie Catherine. He will also be missed by his loyal dogs Freeway and Bailey. Preceded in death by his beloved mother and adoptive father, Beatrice and Wayne Funkhouser, and baby daughter Danielle Catherine. Steve is survived by his father Martin (Antonia) Vega; siblings, Allen (Sandy) Funkhouser, Denise (Ken) Funkhouser-Ekstrand, Nora (Bruce) Vega-Kowalisyn, Dr. Sandra (Armando) Martinez, and Tony Annette (Alfred) Villarruel, mother in law: Philomena Capaccio and sister in law: Pat Capaccio; many loving nieces and nephews, and dear friends. Steve proudly served in the Vietnam War as a member of the United States Navy. He was a Life Member of the VFW 1109 in Highland, serving numerous terms as Commander and earning the distinction as All State Commander for 3 years. He was also a Life Member of the American Legion Post 180 in Highland. Steve was a parishioner of St. James the Less, Highland. Steve retired after 39 years from Arcelor-Mittal (Inland Steel), where he worked in the Accounting Department. A mass will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2008 at 10:00 AM from St. James the Less Church, with Father Keith Virus officiating, followed by military services held at the Veterans Memorial, Munster. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2008, 3:00-8:00 pm, at Kish Funeral Home, 10000 Calumet Avenue,(next to Fitness Pointe) Munster. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Steve will be remembered for his devotion to his family, sense of patriotism, and his generous spirit. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed. For more information please call (219)924-3333.
