Steven Glover Obituary

STEVEN GLOVER "THE PREACHER" HAMMOND, IN
Steven "The Preacher" Glover, age 54, of Hammond, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2012. He was born June 7, 1957 in Mt. Vernon, IL to Chester Paul Glover and Jannie Lee Tanner-Glover. Steven is survived by his wife of six years, Elvina; two sisters-in-law: Ceren Acopiado and Terry (Arnold) Minao; nieces and nephews: Cary Acopiado and Maria Paulson, Boyong and Desai, Marco, Lea, Robaha, Ginky, and Gilbert. Preceded in death by his parents: Chester Paul and Jannie Lee (nee Tanner) Glover. A tribute to the "Preacher" will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2012 at 6:00 pm at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond (two blocks E. of Hohman, one block N. of Gostlin). Visitation will be held Sunday, February 26, 2012 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A private cremation will follow. Steven was a graduate of Morton High School and attended Purdue University Calumet. In his younger days, Steven played in the local band Sludge and a softball team called "Beach Bums". He had a successful corporate career in hotel management with positions in Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New Orleans. Due to heart problems, he returned to Hammond and found a second career in local radio at AM-1230-WJOB. "The Preacher", as he was known to his listeners, had a unique talent to entertain while creating a forum for understanding all perspectives regarding local current events. His large audience was exposed to a wit and direct region-style that confirmed the Preacher as a "true region character". Preacher enjoyed all sporting events (as well as some action) and was involved in the local golf scene. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him, and as he stated daily, "Remember you're just renting space on this big rock, so relax, swing hard as you can, and say your prayers". In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the "Preacher Park Fund" (would it kill ya!) at American Savings, FSB in Munster, IN.

Peeps Glover

February 27, 2012

Time has gone by so very fast and it's hard to believe Steve "Bones" Glover, my brother, has left this world. We called ourselves (and some very close friends) the "Chumbones". We had such a great time, lots of laughs, and some secrets will remain forever. The Chumbones were always there for each other - no matter what. "Flea", "Bimps", "AJ", "Blaze", "Stupor", "JD", "Piggie", "Peeps" (that's me), and my memory fails at this point. I know there were a few others, some also gone. This isn't goodbye, Bones, I'll see ya on the other side.... *peeps"

I remember the one show where Preach talked about his near death experience in Vegas 20 years ago. That was probably the best radio I have EVER heard ANYWHERE.

I never met Preach, but he and I did exchange emails on a few occasions.

He will be missed.

So much can be said about The Preacher. He was definitely one of a kind. He was never afraid to speak his mind and lived life to the fullest. In a world where we spend so much time editing ourselves to not offend anyone, The Preacher reminded us that sometimes things need to be said, they need to be discussed and even if its difficult it is a part of life. Rest in peace, we will all be listening for you on that great big radio in the sky.
