Thelma G. Skrzypek

Thelma G. Skrzypek, of Hammond (recently of Schererville), passed away Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the age of 98. A life long resident of the region, Thelma was very active in her community, being a room mother at her children's school, a Girl Scout leader, a member of American Legion Post 369, and a dedicated parishioner of St. Casmir's Catholic Church in Hammond for more than 50 years. She also worked for some time for the Shoreline Bus Company before choosing to stay home and raise her family.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Beulah Dye; her beloved husband of 50 years, Walter J. Skrzypek; and her treasured sister and brother-in-law, Shirley (Harold) Ballou. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving daughters, Karen (Phillip) Kokandy and Janice (William) Sojka; precious grandson, Jonathan (Patty) Sojka; great-grandchildren, Valerie and Allen "AJ" Sojka; her dear friend, Kaye Ruhland; and many extended family members. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Residences at Deer Creek (Schererville) for their excellent care.

Memorial services will be Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at 12 noon with visitation to follow until 4 p.m. at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft Street, Merrillville, 46410. Private interment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois.
