Thomas Figler Obituary

After 4 1/2 years battling a diagnosis of younger onset Alzheimer's Disease, Tom Figler died peacefully in his sleep on 9/13/2025. Tom grew up in Munster, Indiana. He attended Loyola University Chicago for undergrad, Indiana University School of Medicine to receive his medical degree and completed a radiology residency at Loyola University Medical Center where he met his wife, and fellow radiology resident in training, Jan. Tom was a wonderful interventional radiologist, saving lives or helping improve the lives of countless individuals, and he loved telling stories. Alzheimer's Disease initially impacted Tom's ability to speak, then increasingly altered his cognition, reasoning, affect and behavior. Together, Tom and Jan were blessed with two wonderful sons, Jacob (U of Utah) and Luke (Northwestern). Tom's traits of athleticism, intelligence and 'tendency to exaggerate' are easy to recognize in his handsome sons. Tom is also survived by his wife Jan, brother Bill (Monica), sister Jenny, niece Helen, nephews Sam, Xander, Eric, Aunt Dorothy, Aunt Connie, many cousins and extended family. Celebration of life will occur at a later date. Consider a donation to: Lorenzo's House (lorenzoshouse.org) which supports children and families affected by younger onset dementia or Alzheimer's Association which is committed to fighting the disease.
