Thomas Kalberer Obituary

Thomas E. Kalberer, Sr. HOBART, IN - Thomas E. Kalberer, Sr. age 94, of Hobart, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Tom was born on November 26, 1923 in Winamac, Indiana and was a graduate of Medaryville High School. He was a WWII Veteran where he served as an Army Medic. Tom retired in 1986 from Arthur Winer after 36 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he belonged to the Dartball League and was active as an usher. Tom bowled on the Kellen's team for 30 years at Hobart Lanes on Thursday night league. He was also a life member of Hobart VFW #5365 and Portage American Legion Post #260. Tom loved his tractor and taking care of his property. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Vera (nee Detterline) Kalberer; three children: Linda Teague, Portage, Thomas (Carla) Kalberer, Jr., Union City, TN, and Cindy (Ben) Blair, Crete, IL; five grandchildren: Angela Lane, Heather Norman, Benjamin Blair, Philip Blair and Nathan Blair; and eight great grandchildren; three siblings: Wilma (Don) Davis, Lake Station, Lewis (Jeanette) Kalberer, Hobart, and Retha (Jim) Hunt, Dyersburg, TN; numerous nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hazel Kalberer, grandchild, Amanda; two brothers, William and James; two sisters: Doris and Kathryn. A funeral service for Tom will be Monday, December 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 900 Luther Dr., Hobart, with Rev. Nathan Kramer officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 3, 2017 from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at REES FUNERAL HOME, Hobart Chapel, 600 W. Old Ridge Rd., Hobart.
