Veronica Escobedo Obituary
Veronica "Roni" Gill Escobedo, age 43, of East Chicago, IN, formerly of Gary, IN, passed away Saturday, February 2, 2008 at her residence. She is survived by her loving mother, Carmen Gill Escobedo; six sisters: Lydia (Frank) Whitsel, Alice (Raymond) Chavez, Rachel and Martha Escobedo, Lisa (Martin) Hernandez and Cali Escobedo; three brothers: Manuel (Annie), Richard and Michael (Rosie) Escobedo; special godmother, Ophelia Vela; 22 nieces and nephews; 31 great- nieces and nephews; also many cousins, family and friends, and her beloved cats "Rusty" and "Junior". A special thanks to Dr. Dennis and Julie Streeter. Preceded in death by her father, Manuel Z. Escobedo; sister, Cindy Escobedo; and brother-in-law, Venancio Vera. A Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Holy Rosary Church, 719 Clark Road, Gary, IN with Father Fernando de Cristobal officiating. Cremation private. Friends and family may visit with the family on Wednesday, February 6, 2008 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the Oleska-Pastrick Funeral Home, 3934 Elm Street (one block north of Columbus Drive - U.S. 12), East Chicago, IN. Prayer service Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Viewing at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of mass. Roni was an employee of the East Chicago Marina Cafe serving as a head cook and was a former employee of the Radisson Hotel and Trump Casino. She was a Gary West Side High School graduate, Class of 1982. Roni was a loving daughter and sister and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Information: (219) 398-0938.

My deepest condolences go out to the entire Escobedo Family. Although I haven't seen Roni in many years, it didn't take but a second to remember that she was one of my best childhood friends. Her smile brings back memories of the kindness and laughter that she always possessed. She was always smiling and always made me laugh. Rest In Peace Roni, I will never forget you. We wish to give the Escobedo Family, Friends, and all those that have known Roni our deepest condolences. May all of our hearts be comforted knowing that she goes before us to make her peace, to provide us the path to her side, where in time we all are joined together as one Family, with our Lord Jesus Christ.
The entire Medrano Family, neighbors of the Escobedo Family for years (we lived at 619 Matthews Street), are in disbelief and saddened with your loss. Our family members, Linda, Hector Jr., Nelda, Melva, Robert, Ruben (that is me), Lisa, Norma, and Raynard (who was our baby back then), have our own memories that we treasure of your family. We will forever treasure those memories.
In fact we were just talking about you all recently in one of our family websites, remembering Ricky, Michael (actually I remember him as Mikey…and often wonder does he remember Tiger?), Martha, etc. Because we, just like you all, were of different ages, each one of us have our own special memories of the Escobedo’s. Perhaps in time we will be able to share those with each other again.

I was so shocked to hear about Ronnie's passing, and I wanted to give my condolences to you and your family. I remember she was the jokester in your family, and always brought smiles and laughter to everyone around her. Know my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family at this time. My condolences to your entire family. I can't ever remember a time NOT knowing Roni or anyone else from your family for that matter; generations of the Alemans and the Escobedos growing up together and sharing SO much.
