WALTER JAMES ECKHARDT FORMERLY OF LANSING, IL
Walter James Eckhardt, age 87, of Duluth, GA, formerly of Lansing, IL, passed away November 15, 2008 in Duluth, GA. He is survived by his children: Gail (Robert) Eckhardt Bartock of NC and Alan (Veronica) Eckhardt of GA; Papa to Christopher (Jennifer), Ryan and Blake Bartock; Michael, Robert and Alison Eckhardt; Great Papa to Lakin and Logan Bartock. Walter was a great brother and uncle, always with a twinkle in his eye. Preceded in death by the love of his life of 60 great years, Grace Aumann Eckhardt; and parents: James (Oneida Stilley) Eckhardt. Mr. Eckhardt was born in Fort Dodge, IA and enjoyed most of his young life in Kankakee, IL. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army 405th Infantry, 102nd Division. Walter was a great baseball fan with a great source of baseball knowledge. He worked as a mechanic and enjoyed sharing his skills and tools. Walter was famous for his bean soup and popcorn. Memorial services and visitation will be held Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schroeder- Lauer Funeral Home, 3227 Ridge Road, Lansing, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mr. Eckhardt may be directed to your local hospice organizations or to SADS.org.
