Walter Slamkowski

Walter S. Slamkowski Munster Walter S. Slamkowski, age 80, of Munster, IN, formerly of Hammond, IN, passed away Sunday, October 29, 2006 at his residence. He is survived by three sons: James (Patricia) Slamkowski and Robert (Marjorie) Slamkowski both of Ogden Dunes, IN and Steven (Margaret) Slamkowski of Shorewood, IL; one daughter, Karen (Dale) Dooley of Munster, IN; eight grandchildren: Christina (Jeff) Johnston, Timothy, Evelyn (Richard) Barkaway, Carolyn, Joel, Kimberly, Meghan and Joseph; two great-grandchildren: Avery and Zoe Johnston; two sisters-in-law: Jane Byrnas of Munster, IN and Shirlee Byrnas of Crown Point, IN; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; three sisters: Estelle (late Mike) Kampo, Wanda (late John) Cichon and Nell (late Walter) Mucha. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 9:30 a.m. at the Anthony & Dziadowicz Funeral Home, 4404 Cameron Ave., Hammond, IN (two blocks east of Hohman, one block north of Gostlin) for a 10:00 a.m. Mass at St. Casimir Church with Rev. William O'Toole officiating. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00-9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Slamkowski was a retired bailiff in the Lake County Superior Court, Room 5, Judge James Richards Court and was a Lake County Deputy Sheriff. He was a member of St. Casimir Ushers Club (services Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.), an Army Veteran of WWII and a member of The American Legion Pershing Post 428. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the St. Joseph Soup Kitchen would be appreciated.
