Shocking news that Abby is gone. She was an amazing, socially insightful photographer. Her book, Growing Up Female is a classic and compares to no other such creative chronicling of what the experience is for women and girls. She was a friend and a colleague. We were on faculty at ICP together and I was a member of the Picture Project which she founded with other photographers. Abby was a great photo editor, teacher and photographer. Her work is historical and culturally important. A lovely valued human being of beauty, intellect and substance.

6-3-13: Abby was a smart, attractive, and gracious human being who when out in public always made the person she was in friendly conversation with feel like they were the only person in the room....a quality of being with other people that is very unique and will be deeply missed by me.

I took a course at the New School with Abigail many years ago. She treated me like a peer. encouraged me to shoot whatever I wanted to shoot, to be unafraid and strong. I never forgot the lessons she taught me. I am so sorry she's gone.
