ALAN APPELBAUM

APPELBAUM--Alan PhD., Alan Appelbaum, 88, of Mount Kisco died on Saturday, April 12 after developing lymphoma and a secondary condition. Alan practiced law for decades with Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen & Hamilton before beginning a second career as a scholar of late antiquity. After earning his PhD at Yale University in 2007, he published two books and numerous articles in scholarly journals. The most recent one came out this spring. Alan was married for 57 years to Judith Appelbaum, who was an author and a columnist for the New York Times Book Review. His survivors include his daughter Lynn Appelbaum, his son Alec Appelbaum, daughter-in-law Emily Blank, and grandchildren Lizzie and Nate Appelbaum, all of New York.
