He will forever be my hero

Alan worked with my mother when she was a single LPN at Long Island Jewish Hospital from 1977-1981. He implanted my first shunt when I was only a few months old. I was born in May of 1977. I was first so afraid of Dr Roosenthal that he used to examine me in the waiting room. For years my mom would ask him whether it was time to replace my shunt of 20 years. But Dr. Roosenthal said no. Because it would not improve the quality of my life. It wasn't until I was 21 that he gave the okay to replace it. Even though he was not going to do the surgery. For years. Doctor Roosenthal cared, watched over and protected me. His love and kindness. Is why I am the 46 year old man I am today. I love you Allan Roosenthal. For all that you are. All that you've done. And all that you will ever be.

Enid, you made a wise choice when you chose to room with Alan instead of me! It was a great joy for me to see how happy you were and how you adored each other. This is a devastating loss I know. May the memories serve to keep him in your heart forever. Thinking of you with much love, Leni and Barry

Dear Enid and family-
I was saddened to hear of Alan's passing. I worked 17 years with him and did thousands of surgeries along side him. He was one of the nicest men I have come across in my professional career. He will be missed. My sympathies to all.

To the Rosenthal family,
Forty years ago, in September of 1973, Dr. Rosenthal operated on my 6-year-old daughter Karen, removing a brain tumor and installing a cranial shunt. Dr. Rosenthal remained in my daughter's life for the next 30 years both professionally, by performing many procedures, and personally. He knew that Karen graduated from high school, college and graduate school.
Karen just turned 46 and without Dr. Rosenthal's skilled hands and guidance, I am certain that circumstances would hae been very different and only sad memories of Karen would be evoked rather than the active life she has.
It is very sad whan a loved one passes away. But you should take solace in the fact that your husband, father and grandfather was a skilled surgeon, compassionate person and a patient individual who made many people's lives productive and very happy. He will be remembered and missed by many.
Thank you Dr. Rosenthal
