ALAN VASKAS

VASKAS--Alan V., died at his home in Stonington, CT, on March 12, 2026, after a three-month struggle with complications from a debilitating fall. He was born in Goppingen, Germany, on February 13, 1946, to Albin and Hedwig Vaskas, who had fled Russian occupation of their home country, Lithuania. In 1949, Alan and his family emigrated from Germany, settling in Nashua, NH. A 1967 graduate of Brown University, Alan soon joined the New Hampshire National Guard. His unit was deployed to Vietnam, where, on April 19, 1969, he was gravely wounded; he spent two years at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He was awarded the Bronze Star with Valor device and the Purple Heart. In 1974 Alan graduated from Fordham Law School and practiced law in Philadelphia and West Chester, PA. In 1988 Alan and Janet McClendon married, and in 2018 they moved to Stonington, CT. They had more than 37 wonderful, loving, and laughter- filled years together. In addition to Janet, Alan leaves two sons from a previous marriage, Douglas and Andrew, four grandchildren, and his siblings, Albin Vaskas, Mary Ann Travis, and Natalie Johnson. There will be a private Celebration of Life later in the spring. Donations in Alan's memory may be made to the Stonington Free Library, 20 High Street, P.O.
