ALASTAIR KEITH Obituary

KEITH--The Honorable Alastair James, loving husband, father, and brother, died on February 26, 2021 in New York City. Alastair is survived by his wife, Wing Keith (nee Sommers); his children, Alexander Keith and Serena Keith; his twin sister, Camilla Lady Mackeson; and his first wife and mother of his children, Jayne Keith (nee Teagle). Alastair was born in London on March 7, 1947 to the Lord Keith of Castle Acre and the Lady Ariel Keith CVO. He graduated from Eton College before coming to the United States to attend Harvard College (class of 1969) and then Harvard Business School (class of 1971). He was a proud member of the crew teams at Eton and Harvard. Alastair spent his professional career in the financial services and advisory industries. He started out at Brown Brothers Harriman & Co in New York where he rose to Managing Director; followed by a period working as a financial advisor to multi-national corporations in the Middle East; a subsequent return to Brown Brothers; and then a five-year period advising the Czech government on privatization. He spent the last 20 years of his career as a Managing General Partner of a New York based fund-of- funds, CA Partners, from which he retired in 2012. Following this, he focused on actively managing his family home, farm, and shooting property, The Wicken, in Norfolk, England. Alastair also pursued various personal philanthropic interests, including most recently serving on the board of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Company in New York. Alastair was a devoted father and husband. He found joy in filling dinner tables in New York, the Hudson Valley, and Norfolk with dear friends and good conversation. An avid outdoorsman, he was a keen shot and enthusiastic fisherman. His adoring Labradors rarely left his side. Most importantly, Alastair was a gentleman: kind, generous, and with an abiding wit that put all at ease. He was loved in the United States, England, and far beyond by all of those who were fortunate enough to know him. Memorial Services: To be announced, pending COVID restrictions.

So sad to learn of Alastair's passing. My condolences to his family. He hired me to work for him at Brown Brothers Harriman on the Banking floor. It was a pleasure knowing him and someone I will not forget.

Brother Keith ‘69 was a wonderful fellow member of the Porcellian Club at Harvard, very amusing and popular. He had a twinkle in his eye. Charming would be a good description. A great guy who will be missed by many many people!
