ALBERT GLICKMAN Obituary

GLICKMAN--Albert Brenner, family man, philanthropist and business genius, died peacefully on April 27th in Los Angeles. Born in Portland, Maine, Al was raised by his widowed mother Mildred Brenner. Millie later married Joe Glickman and the family moved to California. Al's greatest love was his wife Judy. They met at UCLA where Al was close friends with her brother Richard. Al skillfully wooed her away from all other suitors. Al and Judy were partners in life, family, travel, and tennis. They were married for 54 years of romance and laughter, loyalty and love. He is missed by a large and loving family: children Jeff (Mindy), Tigraw, David (Paige), and Brenner (Elaine); and many grandchildren; brother Bob; and loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Al eschewed the practice of law to become a real estate broker. Soon he established his own company pioneering the community shopping center. He built islands of retail in towns throughout California and the West. The idea and the company flourished. Al had a great zeal for life. He enjoyed traveling the world, sunset cruising on his boat L'Chaim and skiing from the top of the mountain to the bottom without stopping. Through extraordinary charm and chutzpah, Al convinced the staff at Aspen Mountain to allow him to ride up the gondola each morning before the mountain opened. For years, he and four friends would enjoy the first tracks down the mountain. Wherever he lived, Al was always surrounded by friends. His magnetism was contagious while family and friends flocked to his side. Because of his sincerity, caring and insights, many, many people considered Al their best friend. Al loved action and cherished being an insider among decision-makers. He was a friend and advisor to presidents, senators, and governors. Dedicated to his community, Al had a tremendous impact on dozens of boards of charities, universities, hospitals and museums including: Cedars Sinai Hospital, Federal Home Loan Bank Board of Boston, International Council of Shopping Centers, Jewish Community Alliance, The Kennedy Center, Maine Public Broadcasting Network, Natural History Museum of Los Angeles, Portland Museum of Art, Portland Symphony, Spring Harbor Hospital, Spurwink School, UCLA, University of Maine System, University of New England and the University of Southern Maine. As a leader in the Michael J. Fox Foundation, Al focused his energies and resources in the pursuit of finding a cure for Parkinson's Disease, knowing the benefit was for future generations, not himself. Notwithstanding his immense accomplishments, family was always his highest priority. Al prided himself on being home for dinner with the family every night. He created a family retreat on Great Diamond Island in Maine, where his kids and grandkids reunite every summer. From humble beginnings, Al created a life that was extraordinary. He leaves a legacy of generosity and goodness. His family, friends, and community will forever feel blessed. Please send your support to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.

I just found out about Mr. Glickman's passing. I worked for him for many years (approximately 12 years) before I retired.and moved away to Las Vegas. I just found out from another former employee about Mr. Glickman's death.and the fact that he had Parkinson's..I have Parkinson's also, going into my second year. I am also under a medical trial thru' the Michael J Fox foundation.

Mr. Glickman was always very kind to me. Once I had to bring some important papers to his home after work. He invited me to stay for dinner.
I am so sorry that no one told me about his passing. I would have liked to express my feelings to the family at that time.

I am so sorry.. Mili lang

We had the pleasure of meeting Al three times and he always had a smile and a twinkle in his eyes. Our daughter, Amy, was one of Al's caregivers for six years and was always excited when Al asked her to fly on his private plane either to Manhattan, N.Y., Hartford, CT., Haddonfield, N.J., Walt Disney World, FL and Los Angeles, CA. Our love and thoughts to the Glickman family for their great loss of a courageous Husband, father and grandfather.
