ALEX KARMEL Obituary
died from complications of cancer on Saturday, October 24, 2015, at his home in Dourdan, France. Born in New York in 1931, he was the author of three novels, "Mary Ann," "Last Words," and "My Revolution," and two books of non-fiction, "Guillotine in the Wings" and "A Corner in Marais: Memoirs of a Paris Neighborhood." His novel "Mary Ann" was made into the 1961 film "Something Wild." His first wife, Marjorie Karmel, a co-founder of Lamaze International, died in 1964, and he lovingly raised their three children. He is survived by his wife of forty years, the actress and writer Marianne Servouze (Marcellin) Karmel; by his children Pepe Karmel, Marianne Karmel, and Philippa Karmel Wharton; and by his seven grandchildren: Jeremy and Caleb; Michael and Elliot; and Sophie, Emily and Molly.
