ALFRED SCOTT Obituary

SCOTT--Alfred L. Alfred Lincoln Scott passed peacefully at the age of 91 with the love of family by his side on Monday, June 27th. He is a graduate of Union College (BA) in 1953 and New York University School of Law (LLB) in 1956. After obtaining his membership in the New York Bar, Al decided to pursue a career in equipment leasing. In 1956, he founded Bell Equipment Company, an international equipment leasing company with offices in the United States, the Caribbean, London, England, and Paris, France. With a partner in 1961, he acquired Alcorn Combustion Company, a specialty engineering company. He sold both of those businesses in 1968. After completing those transactions, Al joined the Corporate Finance Department at Oppenheimer & Co. and focused on mergers and acquisitions and debt and equity financing. In 1973, he founded Scott-Macon, Ltd. as a boutique investment bank serving the middle market. Around that time, Al returned to the crane industry at the request of several former Bell Equipment customers. He grew both businesses simultaneously within one organization. The equipment business now has eight locations in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma and is a crane dealer for Tadano, Ltd., Broderson Manufacturing Corporation and Kobelco Construction Machinery U.S.A. Inc. He remained active in both businesses until his passing. Al was a kind, generous, and thoughtful husband, father, and grandfather. He touched many lives in his family, personal, and business life. He generously donated to many causes and was instrumental in many fundraising programs. He was a past President and long-serving member of the board of the Columbia-Greene Hospital Foundation. Al was a gracious host and enjoyed giving many family gatherings. He married the late Anne A. Scott in 1963 with whom he had two children. He then married Elizabeth J. Scott in 1991 who survives him. Al is survived by his daughter, Carolyn A. Scott and son, Alexander L. Scott and his two stepchildren Elizabeth Jacks and Robert Jacks. Between the two families he has eight wonderful grandchildren. Al loved attending baseball and hockey games in NYC with his family. He enjoyed traveling with family and friends to such places as Kenya, India, Europe, and many places in the United States. He will be missed greatly by all. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 8th at 11am at the Reformed Dutch Church of Claverack, NY. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Columbia-Greene Hospital Foundation in Hudson, NY.
