ALFRED YAGER

YAGER--Dr. Alfred, born of parents Harry and Jenny Yager of Englewood Cliffs, NJ passed away December 20th, 2018 at age 95. Predeceased by brother Dr. Robert Yager, sister Helene White and his wife of 66 years, Betty. Betty and Alfred moved to Carmel, CA on Alfred's retirement in 1995. After attending Staunton Military Academy, he attended University of Virginia where he received his B.A. and M.D. degrees. Alfred interned at Beth Israel Hospital, N.Y.C. and subsequently trained at New York University affiliated Hospitals in pathology Internal medicine, and cardiology. He practiced cardiology for 42 years in North Bergen, New Jersey. He was Director of Medicine and Cardiology at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, and Palisade General Medical Center, North Bergen, N.J. The Cardiac Laboratory at Palisade Hospital was named "Alfred Yager M.D. Laboratory" on his retirement. He served as a Hospital Corpsman in the USNR in 1943, and Senior Ass't Surgeon in the US Public Health Service from 1950 to1953. He was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at New York University, and Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at The New Jersey College of Medicine and Dentistry. He was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, Honor Medical Society in 1947. His survivors are son James and daughter-in-law Suzanne; son Thomas and daughter-in-law, Gretchen; son, Charles and daughter-in- law, Terri; and two granddaughters, Jennifer and Stephanie and her husband Simon Bae. Alfred enjoyed golf. He was club champion at Tammy Brook Country Club in Cresskill, NJ in 1963. Up until recently, he continued to play at Quail Lodge Golf Course. A celebration of his life is scheduled for Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Carmel Valley Manor in Carmel, California. In lieu of flowers, donations to your favorite charity is encouraged.
