Allan Fromme Obituary

FROMME-Allan, Ph.D. Of Sarasota, FL, died on January 30th. Survived by Babette Brandt Fromme, his loving wife for over 59 years, father of Pamela Fromme Formato of Sarasota, FL, Steven Fromme and his wife, Lynn, of Chapel Hill, NC; very special grandfather to Brian Formato and his wife, Brita, Oliver Formato, Alison Fromme and Christopher Fromme; adoring great-grandfather to Olivia Kristin Formato. Dr. Fromme was a clinical psychologist practicing in New York City from 1945 until 1976, when he moved to Sarasota, where he continued to practice while maintaining a partial practice in New York City. Dr. Fromme was graduated from the City College of New York cum laude with special honors in psychology. He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi, and received his Ph.D. From Columbia University. He served in the army during World War II. Dr. Fromme taught for many years at C.C.N.Y., Sarah Lawrence College and Columbia University. He became chief psychologist at the Child Guidance Clinic of St. Luke's Hospital, and later director of the Mental Hygiene Clinic of the University Settlement House. He was asked by radio WMCA to develop the weekly program, ``Adventure into the Mind,'' which he wrote and participated in as the psychologist. He also served as the expert on the celebrity panel of the weekly radio show ``Make up Your Mind.'' In addition to his many appearances on television, Dr. Fromme gave a popular lecture series at the 92nd Street Y. His eight books include ``The Ability to Love,'' ``Sex and Marriage,'' and ``The ABC of Child Care.'' Dr. Fromme was a member of the Board of Directors of the Trans-Lux Corp. for many years. There will be no funeral or memorial service held either in Sarasota or New York City. Donations in his memory may be made to Eckerd College, 4200 54th Ave So, St. Petersburg, FL 33711; or to the Literacy Council of Sarasota, 1750 17th St, Sarasota, FL 34234.
