ANDREW S. GORDON

GORDON--Andrew S. Independent architect, designer and artist formerly with GFT/Giorgio Armani died on September 5th at his home in East Hampton, NY, with family and friends by his side after a long battle with cancer. He was 52. Andrew was known for his modern, minimalist aesthetic. Early in his career he worked with the architecture firm Hanna/Olin. He worked in New York as an architect and designer for GFT/Giorgio Armani for ten years before launching Andrew Gordon, Inc. www.andrewgordoninc.com, with projects in New York, Florida and California. In later years his focus shifted from architecture to painting, exploring variations in light and texture. Andrew balanced aesthetic perfectionism with a playful spirit and loyalty to friends. He delighted in his nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was passionate about his gardens. He was the longtime partner of the late Christopher H. Browne. Andrew graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in Design of the Environment. He studied architecture at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His charitable interests included, among others, Rockefeller University, Massachusetts General Hospital and Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. He is survived by his parents, Robert Gordon III and Eleanor S. Gordon, his brothers, Robert and William, and a sister, Elizabeth Dellenbaugh. Services will be private.
