Alice Catherine Sheppard Long, 8 Francesca Ave., Hanahan, SC 29410, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, April 27, 2016. She was born on Callawassie Island in Beaufort, SC to Jack L. Walker, Sr. and Ruby L. Riley Tillman (she was step-daughter to Wade S. Tillman). She was predeceased by her husband(s) Ulmer Sheppard and Julian Long and survived by her daughter Gayle Barnhill (James) of Hanahan, SC, Ralph “Gray” Sheppard (Beth) of Jacksonville, Fl., her daughter-in-law Lynnette Sheppard Coker (Paul) of Goose Creek, SC, and predeceased by her son, Randall Sheppard.
She is predeceased by her brother Jack Walker, Jr and survived by the following brothers and sisters: Henry Tillman, Louise Duncan, Wade Tillman (Aileen), Bobby Tillman (Eleanor), Patricia Knudsen, Carl Tillman (Carol), and Wilbur Tillman (Diane). She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Michele Causey and grandson, Graham Sheppard. She is survived by the following grandchildren: Jason Sheppard (Kelly), Jennifer Sheppard Miller (Chris), Amy Weldon (Jordan), Lauri Sheppard, David Causey, Paul Barnhill (Jennifer). She is survived by the following great-grandchildren: Ella and Will Causey, Jonathan and Joshua Sheppard, Garrett and Abbey Sheppard, Chloe, Ethan, and Natalie Miller, Lucas, Mila, Norah and Piper Weldon, Eli and Sadie Barnhill. She also has three great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Long was a member of Ferndale Baptist Church, North Charleston, SC and accepted Jesus as her Savior when she was nine years old at Ridgeland Baptist Church, Ridgeland, SC. She was a woman of faith, a loving mother, Nana, sister, aunt, and mother-in-law. She was affectionately known as “Nan” to her many grands and great-grands and she loved each and every one of them dearly. She loved cooking for her family (especially cooking their favorite birthday meals), birds, flowers, traveling, and eating seafood.
Visitation will be on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Carolina Funeral Home, with the funeral service to follow in the chapel at 2:00pm.
