Arlene Beberman Obituary

Arlene Beberman led a full, loving, and eventful life. Starting as a homemaker she took on active roles in the community as den mother, PTA president, and political advocate. In her 40s, she launched a new life as an independent woman, building a career that led her high in the garment industry, taking her through some of the nation's largest fashion retailers and helping clear the way for future women to win senior positions in business. She was a caring mother and a loving, indulgent grandmother.

After a lengthy illness, Arlene passed peacefully in her sleep on March 28 not long after her 90th birthday. She is survived by her sons Gary and Rick, her daughters-in-law Laurie and Zina, grandchildren Alexander, Julius, and Mikaela, stepson Allan Goldstein and his children Joshua and Noah and grandchildren Leila and Blake. Memorial to come. Donations can be made to Planned Parenthood.

Dear Arlene was my family's neighbor in Baltimore, Maryland in the 1950s. But we lost touch with her when she moved away. When my family moved to Yonkers, NY in 1963, lo and behold, Arlene turned out to live up the street from us! She was always one of our favorite people. What a presence! So brightly she shone! I had the pleasure of being summer camp counselor for her sons, Gary and Rick. Two years ago she sent me a Facebook message to "give her (my 94 year old mother) a kiss from an old friend...Arlene Beberman." Rest in peace, dear lady.
