ARTHUR CHANKIN Obituary
former music professor at Baruch College and music teacher at Theodore Roosevelt High School, passed on January 1, 2017. Mr. Chankin played oboe and English horn with the Yonkers Philharmonic. He is survived by daughters Suzanne Gordon and Fay Hornik, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Services Thursday 12 Noon at Riverside Nassau North Chapels, 55 North Station Plaza, Great Neck, NY.

My deepest and sincerest condolence on your loss. I was a student of Mr. Chankin's in JHS 123 and played trumpet and tuba for him. He was a great teacher, very patient and enthusiastic, making band a fun place to be. The impression he made on me and my peers has lasted until today. I have posted a photo of him with his ubiquitous oboe on the P.S. 77 and JHS 123 facebook page. RIP Mr. Chankin.

I was deeply saddened to read Arthur's obit in The New York Times. Arthur and my late husband, Elliott, knew each other from their teaching days at Baruch College as well as their long time connection with The Waldwick Community Band. My condolences on your loss.
