ARTHUR COHEN Obituary

COHEN--Arthur C., "Art", died in the early morning of Sunday, March 15th with his wife Eve Imberman Cohen by his side. He was 75. A dedicated father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin, Art was an iconoclast and extrovert, a raconteur and occasional provocateur who delighted in spirited evenings and debates. An avid train buff and lifelong student of military history, he possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of long-forgotten railways and the battlefields of WWII - his great passion. A graduate in history from the University of Wisconsin, he later earned an MBA from Columbia, and spent most of his career as a business and real property appraiser. He was a Member of the Appraisal Institute for 38 years, mentored dozen of appraisers, and taught financial aspects of real estate at Baruch College. A lifelong sports fan, he thrilled in watching the Yankees and Jets, treasuring Super Bowl III most of all. Art suffered through a host of illnesses and maladies in his lifetime, and remained steadfast and resolute in the face of challenges. He was a courageous, kind, warm, funny, highly intelligent, and sensitive man whose spirit and good humor touched hundreds of people in his lifetime. We will always remember the great "ACC." He is survived by his wife of 49 years, his sons Dan and Alex Cohen, his daughters-in-law Emily Thall and Lauren Shapiro Cohen, his three grandchildren Sydney, Raphael, and Milena, and dozens of family members and close friends. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 17th at 11:15am at Riverside Memorial Chapel in Manhattan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at North Shore-LIJ, 350 Community Dr., Manhasset, NY 11030 or the University of Wisconsin.

Dear Eve, Dan, Alex, Diana and families,

We were so saddened to hear of Art's passing. He was a delightful man who brought cheer wherever he went. He always seemed to have some joke or humorous slant on things up his sleeve that he would bring out at just the right time, bringing smiles to those with him. He persevered through much in his life and that added to what he brought to those around him.

I (Karen) will always remember him coming to my apartment in NJ just after he had had a stroke. He looked at the stairs he had to climb; he sized them up and then he conquered them as he made his way to the top. He never let things defeat him, he just pressed on.

I (Karen) am so glad I had the chance to visit with him last year. It had been a long time since we had seen each other. Although he was wrestling with many physical things, he was still the same Art I remembered from years ago. He will be greatly missed.

There are no words that will take away the loss and the pain that goes with it but please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.

With love,

Karen (Killip) Gangne, Leslie Killip Mish, Margie Killip and Jeff Killip
