Dear Arthur, we just learned belatedly that you, our dear friend, has left our beloved city forever. We are grateful to have shared a wonderful friendship with you for many years. It all started one day at the Washington Square Arch many years ago with you serenading our group at the beginning of a walking tour you led through the West Village. We will miss you forever, dear friend..
Love,
Bruce & Peter

It's taken over a week for me to digest and come to terms with the reality of Arthur's passing. He has been a true and dear friend to me for some 48 years and his loss is devastating - even though I had several years to try to get used to his slow decline. He brought so much joy, laughter, fun, intellectual and artistic stimulation and conversation, sophistication, charm, and even silliness into my life, and by association, my daughter's life and my grandson's life, we are all so much richer, more interesting and fuller people for having known him. His wealth was the kind that can't be measured in dollars and cents - but in heart and soul. And by that measure, Arthur was one of the richest people I've ever known. He was nothing less than a blessing to us. And I have no doubt he was a blessing to everyone he touched - especially his family whom he adored - even when a lot of the time he drove us all crazy! When I think of Arthur I always smile, and I will smile still whenever I think of him now - and a warm loving smile is no small legacy to leave behind. I believe there is something for us on the other side, and I fully expect Arthur will enjoy whatever it is to the hilt. I also expect him to greet me with open arms at the pearly gates when it's my turn - looking very dapper in a fabulous pink sports jacket!
May God bestow his love and blessings on him.
