I once sat next to Anne Kinsolving Brown at lunch at I Tatti and mentioned that I had gone to Yale with her nephew. "Isn't he beautiful!" was her reply, and indeed he was one of the handsomest undergraduates of his time.

I only knew Gus for a few years as his new neighbor on Fishers Island. He was a regular dinner guest at our home on Fishers most Saturday evenings. Gus taught us to enjoy "unoccupied" Fishers and the serenity the Island provides. We named our Fishers house "Serenity" after many late night discussions. His humble approach taught me two important lessons. I learned from Gus that one shouldn't judge people too quickly because sometimes they have a good reason for the way they act. I also learned from from Gus that a wealthy person is one who is content with what he has. His compassionate approach to interpersonal relationships, combined with his enthusiasm for life, made him a pleasure to be with and for which it was an honor to be considered his friend. I will him responding to my question of "How are you?" with his comment "Better to see you". Meg and I are better people for having known Gus, - Meg & Bob Hoey

Gus was a strong member of the lightweight crew on which he rowed with distinction and vigor. I had a chance to talk with him several times on the phone in recent years. My impression at Yale was that he cared about others and what he did with them. That continued to be the case. While slight in build he pulled his own weight and a lot more. I will miss him and so will the rest of us.

Dear Monique: our deepest sympathies on your loss. It has been so very long since we last saw each other but memories of our weekend sailing trip off Fisher's Island and dinner at the Kinsolving family home are as fresh as ever. Gus was a remarkably accomplished man and clearly left a beautiful legacy. God bless you and all your family at this difficult time. Haig and Thelma Nalbantian
