BARBARA LITRELL Obituary

LITRELL--Barbara Jean. February 4, 1944 - July 4, 2021. Barbara Jean Gallichio Litrell grew up in The Bronx and graduated from Good Counsel College in White Plains. Barbara taught French for seven years and then joined The New York Times' Advertising Department in 1972. She became the Publisher of McCall's, Working Woman and Working Mother magazines, and was dedicated to women's empowerment which continued after her retirement, or as she referred to it, her "rewirement" in 2000. Barbara and her husband, Michael, moved to Arizona in 2002, where she became involved in community service. In addition to becoming a real estate agent, Barbara served as President of Keep Sedona Beautiful, University Women of Sedona, The League of Women Voters Greater Verde Valley, and the Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley of which she was a founding member. She also served on Sedona City Council 2010-14. She is survived by Michael and their beloved dog Lula; her brother, James Gallichio (Raiona), seven nieces and nephews and 10 great nieces and nephews, plus many cousins and dear friends.

Barbara was a true example of terrific women in giving. It was my pleasure to have known her. I enjoyed playing golf with her, being a neighbor and friend. She will be truly missed.
