Dear Hope and Max,
I will never forget meeting Bernie for the first time in August of 1987 when I was welcomed into the APC family. Bernie welcomed me with open arms and was always a great mentor and friend. One thing I loved about him was his talent for writing poetry. He would create our own special poem for our birthday. It was always funny and touching. I am deeply saddened by his loss. He will be greatly missed. Sincerely, Glenda

My wife and I had a very pleasant luncheon with Bernie and Hope not long ago, and we talked about Bernie's years on the APC. As a resident of the New Chauncey Neighborhood, I was impressed with Bernie's commitment to maintaining the stability of the neighborhoods near campus. Given recent changes taking place now, we needed Bernie's expertise to stop the encroachments on single-family residences. Thank you Bernie.

I met Bernie in 1999 when I joined the APC. He was a wise man, a cool man, a smart man, someone you could always talk to about anything. Someone you could agree to disagree with. I am shocked and sadden by this sudden loss. My prayers go out to Hope and Max, two people he loved more than anything else. He always beamed when he spoke about Max. What a terrible loss for you.
