BETSY WARNER Obituary

WARNER--Betsy. July 19, 1955 August 11, 2014. Betsy passed away peacefully on August 11 at the age of 59. Her optimism, kindness and courage, as well as her love and care for family and friends touched many people. She brought smiles, warmth and joy to all who knew her, especially at the Children's Museum of Manhattan (CMOM) where she worked for over thirty years. Betsy was the beloved wife of her late husband Michael Ettelson, cherished daughter of her late father Bob and mother, Marcia, sister to Jim and Steve, sister-in-law to Priscilla and Jennifer, and aunt to five nephews and nieces. She was a devoted friend to Shella Rivers, who shared in Betsy's many triumphs. Betsy's graveside service will take place at King David Cemetery in Putnam Valley, NY at 2pm on August 13. The family will sit shiva at Jim and Priscilla Warner's home at 56 Prospect Avenue, Larchmont, NY at 6:30pm following the service. A celebration of Betsy's life and memorial service will be held this fall at CMOM. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to CMOM, 212 West 83rd Street, NY 10024.

I am saddened by the sudden loss of Betsy, but I know/believe her soul is joyful being reunited with her father and husband…and will soon venture off to its next adventure.

The beauty of Betsy's soul is that it is pure: she was the model of honesty, genuine concern, love and laughter. No pretensions, no self-interest. For those people who may have avoided interacting with her-well they are the ones who missed out on the pureness of her spirit., and missed knowing an angel on earth.
We Greeks have a saying when someone departs this earth- we say “May Their Memory be Eternal” because a person who is spoken of, reminisced and thought of never “dies” – memories are eternal. Death can steal the person from your life, but it can never steal their love and laughter from your life.

My dad's favorite quote was from Pericles “What you leave behind is not what is engraved in stone monuments, but what is woven into the lives of others” and our Betsy weaved a beautiful Tapestry…

Dear Warner Family,
Please accept my deepest condolences. Betsy was a special, lovely person. I have wonderful memories of our childhood sleepovers. We had so much fun! Betsy will be deeply missed. She was an inspiration to us all.
Much love, Jo
