Boyd Irven DeVore

1934 - 2014
Professor Irv DeVore died September 23rd, 2014 of cardiac failure and non-compliance. Born in Joy, Texas in 1934 (population 8, see "The Last Picture Show"), Irv became one of the most popular Professors at Harvard for teaching the class nicknamed "Sex" a way to get out of the sciences requirement, so he may have taught more students than any other Harvard Professor. His home was a hotbed of theoretical biology in the 1970s... as long as you were willing to play poker for "real money." He was also famous for putting cheap scotch in Labeled bottles and sharing cigarettes at the Bohemian Grove and then telling you about it. While true that he never wrote a groundbreaking book that lasted the ravages of time, he was most proud of his students and spent his life nurturing them, mentoring them (as long as that didn't include actually writing the letter of recomendation) and forcing his wife to edit their theses. His students were his publcations, his children, his life. He adored them all and glowed as they thrived. He achieved his full R.S. He leaves his wife Nancy Skiles DeVore of 58 years, his daughter Claire DeVore and her husband, the long suffering Kevin Weick, his brothers Paul and David DeVore and sister Jewell Weber; grandchildren Anna and Alex Weick, Ian Powers and August Welles. Loving nieces Jennifer and Amanda DeVore, Donna Weber and Sandra Muff and nephews John and Mark DeVore and Bill Weber. He was predeceased by his son Greg DeVore. Irv would like to be remembered as the creator of the Pooh House on Hurlbut Street and the savior of many small critters throughout his long life. A devout Atheist and Skeptic we plan to have a home based memorial bash sometime in the future. Read Eliot`s Prufrock and think of him.
