BRUCE BATKIN Obituary

BATKIN--Bruce D. Bruce D. Batkin passed away on December 12, 2022 due to complications from Parkinson's disease. Beloved husband of Ferne, cherished father of Claudia (Georg Machinist), adored "Grandpa P" of Charlie and Chloe, devoted son-in-law of Jacqueline and Peter Rado, brother of Jim Batkin, and remarkable friend and mentor to many. A titan of the commercial real estate industry, his career spanned over four decades including management positions at Merrill Lynch; Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette; and ABN Amro. Most notably, he was co-founder and former CEO of Terra Capital Partners (now known as Mavik Capital Management), which he built into one of the leading providers of middle market non-bank financing to U.S. developers and property investors. Even through the financial crisis, he had no loss of principal on any investment. A graduate of the Cornell School of Architecture and Harvard Business School, he remained loyal to his alma maters, most recently serving as co-chairman of the Dean's Advisory Council of the College of Architecture, Art and Planning at Cornell and a member of the Harvard Alumni Real Estate Board. As accomplished as he was professionally, he was equally renowned for his wicked and witty sense of humor; he brought joy to everyone in his orbit. Beyond that, he exemplified refinement, character and integrity. He will be in our hearts forever. Graveside services will be private. Just gutted to see this news. I met Bruce during work on an investment banking transaction about 5 years ago. The meeting made quite an impression and I tried to stay in periodic touch. Most memorable to me was his genuine caring and enthusiasm for my own efforts in real estate and my wife's shared architecture background-things that with many others would not have even factored into that discussion. That said a lot about Bruce and who he was. Among many other qualities, his positivity and counsel will be sorely missed.

I was in grades 7-12th with Bruce at South High School. We shared many laughs and a lot of good times together in school. He was extremely bright and had the best sense of humor and could always make me laugh. He was a wonderful human being who had such goodness in him. He will never be forgotten. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.
