Whilst looking at a photo album from 1984 where I’d been working at a summer camp in Massachusetts, I remembered my journey on my first day in the USA. I was on a bus travelling from New York to Springfield, Massachusetts and found myself sitting next to a chatty gentleman. I admit I really needed to sleep as I’d been so excited the night before as my night in the YMCA in New York had been very noisy....police cars, people talking....so exciting for a 20 year old from England.
Anyway, the gentleman was Bruno. He was interested in my journey and proceeded to tell me lots of things about the places we passed through. He gave me his card although I will always remember his unusual name. It was a very entertaining journey....stories about Tanglewood, festivals and little titbits about every town. He told me about his job and we talked about art.
So today I Googled his name and found this obituary. Although we only met for a few hours I always remember that day. He made my weary journey very enjoyable. Jayne Toyne, from Preston in England.

I will always treasure the memory of the charming and elegant Bruno, who gave me my first solo exhibition of Modular Paintings at the East Hampton Gallery in NYC so long ago,in 1967. He was working on his special history of the U.S. until very recently and I plan to pass the unfinished manuscript to his family. Bruno always had a unique perspective which I hope will be presented to future history buffs one day.
With my best regards to Margot.
