BURTON FINE Obituary

FINE--Burton M. Peacefully in his sleep on January 18th after a short illness, just shy of his 90th birthday. Burt grew up in the Bronx, the first born son of Hon. Sidney A. and Libby Fine. He attended Bronx Science, Cornell ('53) and Columbia Law ('58). Burt was in the Army, stationed at Fort Bragg from '54-56', worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office ('59-'61), and was a member of the New York State Assembly ('61-'63)--where he wrote the law requiring NYC Taxis to have protective partitions--before starting his own law firm, Fine/Posner (later Fine, Tofel & Saxl) in 1961. He never retired and had clients seeking his counsel until the end of his life. Married to the love of his life, Brenda, for 57 years, he enjoyed a life of extensive travel, the arts and fine dining. He is preceded in death by his brother Ralph Adam Fine. He is survived by Brenda; their three children, Audrey, Michael, Rachel and grandchildren Lauren, Alexis, Jackson, Sophia, Alison, Owen and Hayden. He was buried on Wednesday in his family plot at Montefiore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to New York Public Theater or the New York Giants' GM/Head Coach Search Fund.

Sorry to read about Burt's passing. I learned a lot about being a lawyer from him in my years at Fine, Tofel & Saxl.

I was sorry to learn of Burt's passing. I learned a lot about being a lawyer from working with him at Fine, Tofel & Saxl, my first job after graduating from law school in 1972.
