C. LEONARD GORDON

GORDON--C. Leonard, a happy deal-making corporate lawyer who, after twenty-five years in law and business decided to "do well by doing good" and made a dramatic career shift to starting life-saving medical-technology companies, died on February 9, 2025 in Miami, FL. He was 95. Leonard (aka Len) grew up in Cleveland Heights. He graduated from Harvard in 1951, attended Harvard Law for two years, then got his law degree from NYU while serving in the Army in New York. He joined Cravath in 1955 and became a partner at Marshall, Bratter in 1961. In 1964 he joined his client Baldwin-Montrose Chemical Company as General Counsel, Vice President, and Director and was deeply involved in takeovers (or attempts) of Paramount Pictures, Chris- Craft, and Piper Aircraft. In 1974 he founded law firm Gordon, Hurwitz, Butowsky, Baker, Weitzen, Shalov & Wein. He reinvented himself in the 1980s, becoming a venture-capitalist/owner-operat- or of start-up medical technology companies. His most recent company, Alpha Tau Medical (DRTS: NASDAQ) uses Alpha radiation to target and kill cancerous tumors. Leonard was generous with his time and money. He served as a board member of The Jewish Center of the Hamptons for four decades and was also Chairman and President. He exercised vigorously all his life: running, biking, rollerblading, swimming, and using Heavy Hands. He is survived by his wife Margot, with whom he had a blissful marriage; his children Bruce Gordon, David Schiff, and Elizabeth Schiff; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His daughter Julie Gordon died last year. A memorial service will be held in New York in the fall.
