Carl Forsythe Obituary

FORSYTHE--Carl Stanford, III, Esq., passed away July 12, 2009. He was a lifelong resident of Greenwich. Carl was born to Virginia and Carl Forsythe. Carl, "Mouse", lived a successful and happy life. He graduated from Andover, Yale, Columbia Business and Law Schools, graduating with an LLB and MBA. Carl was successful lead partner of his law firm. Carl belonged to Greenwich Country Club, Belle Haven Club, Racquet and Tennis Club of NYC, the Yale Club of New York, Columbia University Club of NY, and the Bath and Tennis Club of Palm Beach. Carl served on boards of the Bruce Museum, Historical Society of the Town of Greenwich, International Tennis Hall of Fame, Yale Alumni Association, Greenwich Country Club and Belle Haven Club. He was president of the Northeast Greenwich Association for many years. Carl was an accomplished athlete, a nationally ranked tennis player, and loved to ski and swim. Carl was a very generous man and supported the organizations he championed. His numerous civic and professional accomplishments are eclipsed only by his achievements as a father, faithful friend and man of great integrity. He was loved by all who knew him. Carl is survived by his wife Sabrina, daughter Lindsay Forsythe and her husband Jason Good, daughter Robin Forsythe and her husband Adam Toht, stepdaughters Courtney and Nicole Fischer, and two grandsons, Silas Forsythe Good and Elias Toht. A memorial service will be held on July 23rd at Christ Church, Greenwich at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to City Squash, Post Office Box 619, Fordham Station, Bronx, New York 10458.

Mouse was my attorney for over 30 years-I first met him at a party in the 60's and we were good pals thereafter. Mouse helped me with many personal and business matters over the years. He was a remarkable athlete and a warm and pleasant person. My deepest sympathies to his family

Dear Sabrina and family,

It was truly a great shock to all of us to hear of Carl's passing. Those of us who knew and loved him as Mouse, will dearly miss him, especially his generosity, bon vivant nature, utmost manners and presence on the tennis court, sense of humor and caring spirit.

I sincerely hope that your fond, uplifting memories will eventually outweigh the sting of this truly great loss.
My deepest sympathy to you and the girls.

Warm regards,

Ken Wasserman

To the Forsythe family,

I was saddened to hear the news about Carl's passing just today. Carl was widely known in the tennis community and I knew him as Mouse on the tennis court. I will never forget those great moments on the court that we shared at the Country Club. Mouse will certainly be missed.

Sabrina,

Evelyn and I are deeply saddened by Carl’s passing.

Hopefully, your wonderful memories of him will bring you comfort and peace at this difficult time.

While Carl’s brightness of heart is so enduring, his 'bon vivant' spirit and dashing presence will be well- remembered and conspicuously missed.

Please call on us for any reason and know you have our love and heartfelt sympathies.

To The Forsythe Family,
I am sorry about your loss. Often I read the obituaries on line. My purpose in life is to comfort people with God’s word. I try to think of words of comfort and hope to share, that will ease the pain in your hearts. GOD is near to those that are broken at heart; and those who are crushed in spirit he saves. Remember our strength comes from God because he cares. 1 Peter 5:7.

"Don't cry because its over, smile because it happened."

Mouse you brought a lot of love and joy to a lot of people for a long, long, time and many, many, people were better off having known you and being counted as one of your friends.

So I won't mourn your passing but rather celebrate your life & what you gave to others which was much. And as we had known each other since we were both about 15, I can think back on many shared times with happiness.

My condolences to Sabrina, his daughters and step daughters and those who were almost as close.

So if I hear some racket up in the sky sometime, I'll just think your playing some tennis and winning as usual.

Rest in Peace old friend.

If Flannery O'Connor was right when she wrote, "A Good Man Is Hard To Find", then our task has just gotten harder, much harder. Mouse truly was a Good Man, and a good friend since 1956.

My sincerest condolences to his family,

Mouse was someone we younger guys always looked up to, in the 1950's-at the greenwich Country Club--he was slightly older..graceful on the tennis court...the best player...steady and untiring and magnificent. He just was the gold standard in that "Leave it to beaver" halcyon period...loving son to his kindly and adoring parents Ginny and Karl Sr...disciplined and obviosuly preparing for a life of achievement and excellentce/ It seemed that almost everything Mouse touched he turned to gold...Andover,Yale, Columbia, law practice, marriage to fine partners, quality children and grandkids...

Mouse had a mischievous sense of humor and low-key nature in a way....friend to all, it seemed--regardless of race or class.

I remember him with cashmere sweater wrapped around his shoulders at festivities--handsome and understated and destined for a full life...it's been more than 40 years since I've spoken to him...but my Greenwich friends still ask about him and we mention having seen his foto with wife and friends in the paper or wherever...making this or that community contribution....contributions that were
meqaningful and substantive to him---to the town, his home town, he loved and remained loyal to his whole life..and giving of his time, talent and wherewithal to enrich its key organizations.

God Bless Mouse and thank God for such a stellar role model...a life well lived and well loved. He set the gold standard and lived it and got even better with time.

Mouse was someone we younger guys always looked up to, at the Country Club in the 1950's..always graceful and and naturally talented...superb on the clay courts...the gold standard. he'd drive us to Forest Hills to Watch the U.S. Open when it was played on grass.

It seemed that everything Mouse did, he did well..Andover, Yale, Columbia, law practice, wonderful life partners and children/grandchildren.

His love for his home town and life-long loyalty to it and the organizations that enrich it was bountiful.

I remember the love and adoration his folks Ginny and Carl,Sr had for Mouse- a close and private family bond, it seemed..with both parents also loving the Greenwich Country Club...Ginny diving off the board and Carl Sr playing sports and being kindly and accessible.

God Bless Mouse and thank God for such a stellar human being...mischievous sense of humor and generous of spirit to folks from all walks of life.

Dear Sabrina--Using words to express how sorry we are doesn't come close to expressing the depth of our sadness over this news.
We have known Mouse since the 70's, and you and I have volunteered together over the years. We were so happy when the two of you were married.
We will hold you close in our daily prayers. With Love, Barbara and John Kavanagh
